If you own a cell phone, then you may have heard of text messaging. Text messaging has really become a popular way for many people to communicate with other people. You can even get weather updates, Facebook updates and notifications about bills through text messaging. By far the largest user group is teens. Teens easily send thousands of text messages each month. It is natural for small children to want to experience that as well but you do not want to hand them a cell phone. You can try the LeapFrog Text and Learn.
The LeapFrog Text and Learn is not a cell phone nor is it a real texting device. The truth is that it is a hand held gaming device that allows small kids to pretend to text. It even features a QWERTY keyboard just like your own cell phone has provided you have a newer model cell phone that is designed for texting. Your child gets to pretend to text.
The games your child can play on the Text and Learn are primarily focused on them learning the alphabet, improving their typing and learning rhyming. Those are beneficial as long as they do not pick up the “text talk” that is so prevalent among text users. An example of texting language is “U R gr8″ which translates to: you are great. It may not seem like a big deal for some but for many it really does hamper spelling skills.

Some of the most beloved games for adults have now made their way into the toy department and are quite educational. Bananagrams is a great game that is similar to Scrabble but without the fuss and the complication. It may even teach you some new tricks.
When you see the package for Bananagrams you quickly realize where the name comes from. The tiles come in a banana shaped and colored bag. The game is really simple to learn. It is just like Scrabble in that you have to use the tiles you have to create words in a crossword puzzle shape. It really does help kids learn to think quickly and creatively.
It is the ability to see random letters and form words that is so important. It teaches the mind to quickly see correlating letters. The more your child plays this game, the faster he or she will learn to put words together. It is absolutely fantastic for teaching them new words as well. The quicker they complete the game, the more points they win. It really is simple to master and the rules are incredibly easy to follow.

Hey it’s family night again and you are all looking at one another like “what do we do now?” As cheesy as it sounds; board games are still fun. Picking the right board game for family night or a group is important, so here are some tips to help you out some.
Knowing who you are going to be playing board games with is import as well. You will need to take into account the average age, number of players and the kind of players that will be playing the games you are about to spring on your unsuspecting victims.
The number of players does matter. I know you can have like 8 people playing Monopoly and that is a pretty good number of folks. But what about other games? Are you going to have to divide up into teams? If so, throw everyone a curve and numbers in a hat, like say 1-4 two times. The people that draw the same number are on a team.

Everyday there are new magic tricks selling in the market. To tell you the truth, many of them are produced using one thousand year old methods. You too can produce an innovative magic effect by using old principles. For example, the old decanter trick is used to produce a handkerchief in a transparent decanter. We can change the appearance of the trick by switching the objects used in the effect. We could use a wine bottle instead of the decanter, or a rubber water bottle or anything else. We could produce a belt instead of a handkerchief, or anything that works. You can reproduce ten thousand new effect just by substituting the props.
New tricks have been “invented” with less evidence of originality than the substitution of the milk bottle for the decanter in this example. The same principle of using the thread to pull an object into view is demonstrated in Orrin’s Spider Web Trick.
Notice that the thread is still used but that the background of the web helps to conceal both the thread and the pocket from which the card slides. Another important difference is that the movement of the thread is accomplished indirectly by spinning the web. That spider web trick is identical in basic principle to the old decanter trick. But Orrin substituted a card for the handkerchief. He substituted a disc decorated as a spider’s web in place of the table. The thread remained.

New Zealand had a long history of innovation, so it’s nice to see Endeavor, the board game, begin to turn heads internationally. Released by Z-Man Games, Endeavor was created by Carl de Visser and Jarratt Gray from Wellington, New Zealand.
In the game, you live in the time of Empire: maps are still blank and need some colour and shape. As a great power, you need to send ships to new countries, negotiate new deals, and conquer when politics fail. There’s great wealth and power to be found around the world, but they need to be discovered and exploited … Do you have the tactics and strength to create — and control — your Empire?
Your mission starts with the creation of sea lanes, which allow access to far off countries. Or at least around the Mediterranean. Once you have reached there, it’s up to you to deploy your resources wisely and make the most of every opportunity. Strategy is balanced against strength; wit against war as you endeavor to build and hold sway over your Empire. It is important to find a good combination of techniques, as there is no simple path to world domination!

Be a Roman impresario when you play Colosseum, the board game. If you manage to attract the most people to your event, you can win gold and fame. Using the profits from each event, you can build up to have the most stunning performances in ancient Rome. You’ll also need to upgrade your arena, promote your event and gain assets and actors to bring more people into your show. Your goal, to become the Grand Impresario, relies on a balanced strategy and the roll of the dice.
There are five difference phases per round (except the final round, with only four phases). The leading player changes each round, to help balance things out. Each player is responsible for their own arena and begins with the choice of two different events. For each event you run, you need to use asset cards (which show people, props and animals) as well as ensure your arena is big enough to stage the show. You can buy, trade and sell asset cards at certain phases of the game.
The first phase of Colosseum allows you to invest as follows: 1. Enlarging your arena so bigger spectacles can be performed. 2. Getting two dice rolls by building the Emperor’s Loge. 3. Getting five extra spectators by purchasing a season ticket. 4. Buying a new event card. In addition, there are five markets from which to buy asset cards and you can start an auction against your competitors in order to win them.
