But the adults here know better. I am ready to drop the ‘Santa doesn’t exist ball’. Will it destroy our holiday?

why not let them keep believing (depending on their age).. they may want a lot for Xmas, but that doesn’t mean you have to buy it. If you think your children are getting too greedy, try explaining to them the real meaning of Xmas and have them pick one of their toys and donating it to a local charity for families in need. That may help put things in perspective. Make sure you talk to them about it starting around thanksgiving so it won’t be such a shock. All kids want to feel good about themselves. If you make it a yearly thing, they’ll really feel good about themselves and make them less selfish as they grow older.

I am still going with the santa bit, but I told my kids that they were blessed with many things already and santa’s gifts were better needed elsewhere and that they shouldn’t ask for much this year. I just came out and told them that they get to ask for three things from santa, they will get a present from us, and one from each of there siblings. They aren’t happy, but I am sticking to my guns. i just stayed up and sorted all their existing toys. Things are going out the door and I am going to have them weed out even more. I survived with having less than a tenth of what they have. I don’t know what your religious beliefs are, but we told them that Jesus got three gifts and they shouldn’t get anymore than he did, since it is His birthday not theirs. Hope this helps at all.
My mom never told us Santa doesn’t exist. Those words have never come out of her mouth to this day! It’s sort of your fault if they automatically assume they are getting a lot of great toys, you know?
I enjoy being santa for my 4 year old son, but my parents especially my mom enjoyed the first year she could put mom and dad on the from section of the name tag. With that being said my brother is 28 and I am 26 and as of last year we still received presents from “SANTA”. I guess as far as destroying your holiday it all depends on the age of your kids. If any of them are under 8 it depends on the child, most really like the idea of getting presents from “SANTA”. As far as them being over 8, they don’t care where the presents come from.
My son asked and I told him that Santa does not exist that it is the parents. I still remember the look on his face and it has been 10 years…………..He cried then told me that I was a liar.
Please be careful and kind when telling your children. Sounds like you are going to tell them because you cannot afford the type of Christmas that they wish. Best of luck.
there comes a time in evry childs life when certain truths must be told ,an apropiate age to tell them ther is no sant or easter rabit is about ten ,but id wait till after the holidays to drop the bomb give them some time to absorb the news befor the next holiday season
well how old are they, if you want to do this in a gentle way rent the polar express, and actully watch it with them, then in the end just explain to them what it means, Santa is always with you in your heart and when you get older you out grow him, but you dont have to as long as YOU still believe in your heart
You seem to get a kick out of makin your poor kids miserable.Why don’t you give them up for adoption .Hell I’ll take ‘Em if you’d like .Don’t make them suffer because you’ve ruined and continue to ruine your life it isn’t their fault.God Help you! I’m going to pray he forgives you.
For whatever reason your kids are not getting a lot of cool toys. That does not really have anything to do with telling them anything about Santa.
Are you saying that they aint gettin nothin for Christmas? Or just that they are not getting a lot?
Santa does not have to bring a ton of gifts to be Santa.
Maybe you need to warn them that gifts will be less this year.
My children are 20, 23, 26 and I have never said the words “There is no Santa”. Kids figure it out somewhere, sometime on their own.

Santa represents the spirit of the season, and brings children joy but still I think you should teach your children what Christmas is all about, the birth of Christ. You could try to tell them that some kids dont call santa Santa Claus (such in France, they call him Father Noel).
Make it a learning lesson for them to learn about people’s cultures and the real meaning of Christmas besides “oh we get toys”
That kinda depends on the ages of your children and how well you have taught them the true meaning of Christmas.
aaww that is sad..how old are they…i guess that you are alot luckier then my parents if that works…. me and my sister are grown with kids of our own and we still get christmas….it is up to you as a parent….but i think that kids should be allowed to believe as long as they want let them find out on their own…i think that kids who are told way too early are why other kids who still believe are told at school that he is not real…
why do your kids think they are getting so much? are they at that age where they compete with each other over who got the best or most toys??
you want your kids to be happy on this special day but you also want to teach them gratitude for what they have and not what they want.
i told my daughter years ago that santa can only get one toy for each child because there are so many children all over the world. the rest come from parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends.
i also taught her that christmas is not all about getting it’s about giving as well and we donate to some function or other every christmas and on thanksgiving.
my daughter is nine years old and still believes in santa.
